Lida

2025 PERSONAL

A visual engineering exploration.

Lida is a character from Pokémon Legends: Z-A whose design I was fascinated with personally. So I built an interactive version of her using canon elements from the game that's associated with her story.

The items are all hand-drawn and are both hover-responsive and click triggered, and Lida herself has a cursor-tracking behavior that follows your actions. The bulk of the work was done in drawing the assets in multiple states, and splitting them into components that are individually animated with code.

It's a study in what makes a digital character feel present rather than decorative.

The character is animated via manual line boiling inspired by the likes of Aardman Studios and other classic hand-drawn materials in order to give it a life and complement the cursor movement.
